How to get started in Web Development!

It can be quite difficult when we starting in web development, but a quite nice adventure if well prepared. Here are some useful tips that help you make your start in web development.

How to get started in Web Development!

Learn the basics:
Any tip is useless if you do not know the basics of web development. Web development and design are two great skills to have because they allow you to work from anywhere and create amazing, beautiful sites and apps. Nonetheless, it can be hard to get started when you don't know what to do.

Learn to code:
Even if you don't want to pursue a career in web development, knowing how to code and program is an excellent skill to have. It helps develop logical thinking and makes you look objectively at the world. For front end, your basic languages is pretty simple -- HTML, CSS, and Javascript.  All browsers use them.  There are additional tools to make your workflow faster or to help you architect cleaner code through the use of frameworks (Javascript in particular has many frameworks), but all you need to start with are those three. On the back end you have more options because it really doesn't matter to the browser which language you use -- as long as it's capable of generating a bunch of HTML and sending it to the browser, you can probably use it.  Some popular languages on the back are Ruby (with the Ruby on Rails framework), Python (with the Django Framework), PHP, and Microsoft's ASP.net.  Because it doesn't matter which language you use, you'll want to pick one that's easiest to learn.

Getting start:
  1. Browser: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, IE, Opera… these are the most common browsers. It is a good idea to get them all for testing purposes.
  2. Image editor: whether you use Photoshop, GIMP, or any other photo editing software, it is a good idea too. Eventually. you will want to add images to your site, and you'll need some way to format them.
  3. There are many different programming languages out there, some of them similar, others unique. The first step is deciding what kind of development do you want to tackle. Are you more interested in doing front-end development (what you see in your browser window, and how it looks) or back-end programming (the data stored behind the website)? Regardless of the path you take, it is a good idea to start with the very basics: learn HTML and CSS.
